Appreciating our Scenic Rim Heritage

The region now known as the Scenic Rim has long been home to the Mununjali, Ugurapul, Wangerriburra and Migunberri people - custodians of a rich history and culture over many millennia.

That history has continued with the story of the Scenic Rim following the arrival of pastoralists and settlers to the region that saw communities grow from agricultural areas into vibrant towns and villages.

Helping to keep the memories and histories of the Scenic Rim alive are our First Nations people, learned historians, passionate history buffs and dedicated volunteers at museums across the region.

We invite you to explore our region where the many stories of the Scenic Rim will unfold.

Scenic Rim Story Trails

The Scenic Rim Story Trails project is a growing collection of stories offering insight into the natural and cultural heritage of our towns, villages and significant sites.

Discover some of our Scenic Rim stories here or take a walk or drive along our story trails to delve into our region's rich history through public art, storymarkers, storytelling and place-making.

The Natural World, Stories of the Environment shines a spotlight on our spectacular Scenic Rim, from the geology of the landscape and the formation of the Mountain ranges and rivers systems that flow through the region, its animal and birdlife and its World Heritage-listed rainforests and national parks.

First Nation, Stories from our Indigenous People tells of our earliest people and their connection to the lands of the Scenic Rim. These are the stories and culture of the Mununjali, Ugurapul, Wangerriburra and Migunberri people, their traditions, families and connection to country.

Pioneer, Stories of the Pioneers and Colonisation of Queensland explores the timeframe from colonisation in 1770 until 1859. Discover the stories of the early explorers who mapped the region, the experiences of convicts and free settlers who arrived in Queensland and learn more about the establishment of close settlements, their transport systems and our early townships.

20th Centenary, Migration, Federation and the War Years explores the timeframe from 1860 to 1945. It tells of the development of towns and cities, the dawn of a new century and the birth of a nation to the impact of two world wars, Australia's growth as a global economy and its great wave of migration.

Contemporary History since 1945 brings us to the present with stories relating to living, belonging to, or events occurring in the Scenic Rim. These are contemporary stories being written now but which will one day become another part of our rich history.
